Our New Documentary, “Radical Hope”
Did you know that companion animals are helping us in the fight against cancer? It’s true. Comparative oncology is beginning to become more of a force in cancer research and has even caught the attention of the National Cancer Institute.
Think about it…Not only do our pets share our environment, but their immune system is also strikingly similar to ours and they develop cancer just like us. Researchers are leveraging all these factors to help both humans and pets. In 2003 the National Cancer Institute’s Center for Cancer Research formed the Comparative Oncology Trials Consortium. As of 2023 the COTC consists of twenty-two Universities that share information and
discoveries in order to find better treatments for both humans and pets.
MY FRIEND: RADICAL HOPE is focusing on the dog’s contributions and the discoveries that are not only giving hope to humans but are moving the needle forward for cancer treatments in our dogs. We are currently talking to some of the brilliant investigators, veterinarians, and clinical trials
coordinators at universities in the consortium. We are also speaking to owners who have gone through clinical trials and gained extra quality time with their amazing dogs thanks to some of these new discoveries.
As a footnote: Comparative oncology is not animal testing…the dogs involved have naturally occurring cancer – just like us. They are in the care of compassionate and dedicated doctors who are always putting quality of life before all else.
